This is a picture of our office building after Hurricane Wilma in October 2005.

Thankfully, no pets or people were injured.  But this picture reminds us that we need to do everything possible to be prepared for Hurricane season, and here are a few steps to take to help you do just that.

All preparation lists must start with identification.  There are many different options out there, but one that we offer is PetHealthAlert.com, FREE pet medial ID tags for lost or displaced pets.  PetHealthAlert.com is like a medial alert id bracelet for pets.  You can order one of 10 different styles if your pet has a medial condition like seizures, diabetes, is blind, deaf, or needs medications.  There is also a tag for healthy pets.  The service also offers a National Pet Health Registry, where you can enter all of your pets medical information and emergency contact information.  Anyone locating a pet can go to PetHealthAlert.com, enter the 4 digit code on the tag, and pull up the pets important medical data.

We also found a great pet preparation list of from Dolittler.com, founded by Dr. Patty Khuly, a 1995 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, and also voted as one of the 10 best blogs in Pet Health from Fox News.   The Dolittler list covers everything from Identification, Travel, Housing, Crating and Supplies.

Please do everything you can to be prepared!  It WILL save your pet’s life.
