In the shadows of the Michael Vick case, The Humane Society of St. Lucie County Florida, recently rescued 29 Pit Bulls from what appeared to be a home used for dogfighting.

Many of these dogs were outgoing, friendly, no docked tails, and no clipped ears, suggesting to both Humane Society officials and police that possibly these dogs were not fighters, but instead used as bait to train the dogs who did fight.

The dogs filled the backyard of a Port St. Lucie man’s home, who is now charged with individual counts of cruelty for each dog, and were found in awful conditions with scars probably due to whipping.

The animals are in the custody of the court, but hopefully will be adopted out soon, and The Humane Society of Port St Lucie has set up a fund to help the dogs.
