Humane Society Naples reduces adoption fees in honor of homeless pets

Saturday, August 18th is “National Homeless Animals Day, and The Humane Society Naples is offering 50 percent off on ALL pet adoption fees on Saturday, August 18th and Sunday, August 19th.

National Homeless Animal Day is recognized by animal welfare organizations around the world, including The Humane Society Naples, to raise awareness of the plight of homeless animals.

Each year, millions of animals are born only to die a needless death because there aren’t enough people to provide them with a loving home. Herculean efforts on the part of shelters and rescue groups all over the country to convince pet owners to spay or neuter their animals have had some effect, but much more needs to be done to end the crisis of pet overpopulation.

People who care about this problem can help by contacting their local pet shelters and rescue groups to lend a hand and start or increase spay/neuter efforts.

For example, The Humane Society Naples has a special fund set aside to help cover some or all of the cost of pet sterilization for pet owners of modest means.

This Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) has provided 115 pet sterilizations this year, preventing the birth of thousands of unwanted pets. The program will continue as long as there are funds available.

Pet overpopulation breeds disease, increases the number of bite injuries to people and their pets, overwhelms public and private shelters and consumes many tax dollars spent on increasing animal control efforts.

Incorporated in 1960,The Humane Society Naples is a private local non-profit animal welfare organization with the mission to provide shelter in times of need, locate lifelong homes, and promote responsible pet ownership through education, legislation and sterilization. Located at 370 Airport-Pulling Road North in Naples, The Humane Society’s Adoption Center hours are Tuesday and Thursday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  For adoption information, call 643-1555 or log onto our website at http://www.humanesocietynaples.org/.
