Today’s Ft Myers News-Press confirms that pet friendly areas are important elements when it comes to pet owners looking for homes in Southwest Florida. Dog Parks are being built right into the design of many Southwest Florida Communities.
“One of the things we found, in doing research for the Bonita Bay Group, is that pets are an integral part of people’s lives, and we always had plans for a dog park,” says Debbie Holm-Sheeley, general manager at Bonita Bay’s Sandoval in Cape Coral, which opened Barkley Park about a year and a half ago in the 3-year-old development. “When we talk to people about purchasing at Sandoval, we find they love the idea of the dog park, so it’s been a good component for us. We also have sidewalks, so people can walk their dogs.”

Cesar Millan posts a few tips on Yahoo Pets about how to choose the best kennel for your pet if you are traveling and can’t bring your pet along. When leaving your pet in the hands of another person, such as a pet sitter or boarding kennel, it is important to visit the facility, ask questions, get a tour, and get recommendations from friends and neighbors. And as Cesar points out:
Above all, trust your instincts. If something just doesn’t feel right, find another venue. You always want to leave your pet in a place where you feel confident about her safety and comfort. Remember, your pet can’t call you on the pay phone and complain if she’s not happy. She’s counting on you and your knowledge of her needs to make the right decision.
USA WEEKEND gives some advice if thinking of flying with your pets:
- Consult with your vet to assess your pet’s ability to travel, based on his age and health.
- All of your pet’s vaccinations should be up to date, and you should plan to travel with current health and rabies certificates issued within 10 days of your trip. These documents may be required for air travel and can be useful in the event that your pet needs medical attention on the road.
An added feature with a big impact, The Pet Realty Network’s new interactive mapping feature plots the Pet Resource partners on a virtual map and is one more feature that makes The Pet Realty Network the one-stop-shop when it comes to moving with your pet, making some home improvements, or just shopping for something extra special.
If all goes as planned, Wags pet motel will be open by Aug. 10 on Lee Mulroy Road in Marcellus.
Wags is not your ordinary pet kennel. At this pet motel pets can enjoy the 10 8X8foot carpeted rooms that will include a bed and screen door. For the larger dogs, there will be a 16-foot-by-8-foot penthouse suite with a queen bed. All rooms will have a TV and a DVD player or VCR for entertainment (of course!). And before bedtime, dogs can snack on roast beef-flavored ice cream, or a peach, apple, blueberry or mixed-berry cobbler. Read the rest of this entry »
